November 2008
The Baptist
Union of Scotland
Growing
Healthy Churches
Encourage each other through prayer
Each
month there is a systematic journey through the alphabet listing
prayer points for thanksgiving and support for Scottish Baptist
Churces.
Our
mbc bulletin lists the names of the churches. More details can
be found on the web-site www.scottishbaptist.org.uk
. November yields a lot of interest and encouragement that
we are not alone.
Sunday 2nd Dumfries Baptist Church:
Rev Alan Donaldson, Mr Marcus Scotney. Pray
for the Christianity Explored course which started on
29th Sept.
Remember the Church as they look for bigger premises to renovate
or land to build on. Pray for wisdom and patience as they decide
where and when to concentrate resources. Give thanks for an encouraging
first church Weekend Away in Keswick.
Dundee - Broughty Ferry:
Please
pray for the church and its pastor, Rev Brian Talbot. Sunday 9th
Dundee - Central Baptist Church: Revs Jim Turrent and Angus Morrison.
Due to our building project, the decant of both Sunday services
to Abertay University auditorium commenced on September 21st for
approximately three months.
The
builders are now linking our Ward Road Sanctuary to a new, purpose
built, facility next door to serve the community in Dundee. We
hope to re-enter the premises debt-free, but still have some finance
outstanding.
Pray
particularly for the work with students from Dundee University,
Abertay University, and Dundee College - that we maintain the
good relationship we currently have with them. Please pray too
for our nightclub work as it continues from its base in the Church
Office in Ward Road.
You will be aware that we have a new lead pastor, Rev J D Turrent,
who is settling in. Pray for these first few months, as we all
adjust to a new era in the life of CBC, and also for our other
pastor, Rev Angus Morrison. Thank you in anticipation of your
prayers.
Dundee - St Kilda Road Baptist Church:
Mr Richard Toller. We have built up good relationships in the
community through the twiceweekly cafe, toddler group, summer
kids’ club and barbecue and other activities and casual
contacts. Pray that these will bear fruit in lost people finding
salvation.
We are making slow but steady progress in planning and fund raising
for an extension to our building, to enable us to serve the community
more effectively. We have great opportunities but few people,
and some of our active younger members have left for other larger
churches.
“The
harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of
the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Sunday 16th
Dunfermline -Viewfield:
Rev Michael Bonser. We used the "Back to Church Sunday"
initiative and were encouraged both by the way the church embraced
this and by a positive response when many who have drifted away
from church were prayed for and invited back. Contacts have been
renewed and a number came back to a morning service.
A
wide range of people have expressed an interest in attending our
Alpha Course which begins this month. Please pray that we will
see people coming to faith for the first time. We are currently
working on a Community Audit and a Church Audit.
Please
pray that God will guide us through these audits, and that we
will know how to develop our ministries as we seek to serve the
Lord in our community.
Praise God for an increasing sense of unity and purpose.
Dunfermline - West:
Please pray for the church and its pastor, Rev Douglas Whyte.
Sunday 23rd
Dunoon:
Please pray for the church - currently in vacancy.
