a history of morningside baptist church

In 1894 the district of Morningside in Edinburgh was a quickly expanding community. New houses were being built to the south, east and west of the area.

Nineteen friends met in a local Morningside tea-room and in that year formed themselves into a Baptist Church.

They offered the enormous sum of £3,300 to purchase an existing church building on Morningside Road.

For over 100 years this has been the home of Morningside Baptist Church. Stained glass windows were added to the building as a memorial to those who died in the first world war.

The building remained largely unchanged until 1973 when a fire destroyed the sanctuary. Restoration took two years but has resulted in a beautiful building in which to worship and praise God.

A recent programme has completely refurbished the church including the addition of a new vestibule

Due to the numbers attending we have moved our Sunday Services to the Braid Centre, 1 Nile Gove, at the side of Morningside Post Office
