What we do

Care van

Working with other churches, the care van has been going out 365 days a year for many years. The van provides soup, blankets, clothes and Christians provide a listening ear to homeless people around Edinburgh. Members of MBC run the care van once a month.

DIY team

Passing the Baton is a Bethany project helping those who have recently been rehoused establish themselves, making their house a home and to become part of the local community.

Clothes and Furniture Store

We have a storage facility and are always looking for the offer of good quality clothes, furniture and appliances. We use these facilities to support the Passing the Baton project, for the Care Van and for others in the wider church community. (Please remember, if they aren't good enough for you they aren't good enough to give away!)

Street Team

At present we are involved in the lives of over 100 young people directly through mbc, but we are aware that there are many more young people in our communities whom we have yet to begin to draw alongside. More and more young people are spending their evenings outdoors, which we don't see as wrong or bad, but we are aware that they are not likely to come to us (nor that they should be expected to), and, most importantly, that no one is really engaging with them. As a result we have started a street-work project called Street Team.

Our overall vision for Street Team is to be a catalyst for learning, development and transformation in the lives of young people who gather together outside in the areas around (or near) MBC. We aim to achieve this by: earning the right to be a positive and supportive role model who will work towards helping these young people realise their full potential; identifying and responding to the needs and interests of these young people; and supporting and encouraging young people's exploration of spirituality.

Street Team runs on a Friday night, and trained wtreet workers go out to local parks and streets in Oxgangs (8.30-10.30pm) and Burdiehouse (7.30-9.30pm) to build relationships with young people. When out on the street, each worker is expected to wear an ID badge and one of our Street Team jackets. Street Team runs throughout the summer and has December-February off (which is different to all other youth ministry activities).

Grassmarket mission

Working in a rota with other churches, a team from MBC prepares and serves meals to people of no fixed address at the Grassmarket Mission building. It involves cooking, washing up, serving and chatting - more people are needed to help with this!

Not got you excited? Have we missed something?

Everyone has different giftings so if you feel there is something you want to see happening that is not happening so far please contact kenny@mbc.org.uk or speak to your small group or pastorate leader.

If you feel you aren't able to get involved please pray for those who are and please feel free to ask to be included in updates to pray effectively!

Different people coordinate these different activities, please contact kenny@mbc.org.uk to be directed to the correct person.
