Missional Expressions
SWITCH
(formerly the ME called Sports Outreach)
SWITCH seeks to demonstrate God's love by reaching, inspiring and supporting young people from deprived areas in Scotland. We do this because we believe deprived areas matter to God and that God's love brings positive change and hope to these areas. At present we are primarily focused on serving the young people of south Edinburgh, especially in and around Gracemount.
The primary method that we use to engage with young people is the medium of sport because we see sport and related activities as a key avenue to building relationships and cultivating attitudes of fair play, sportsmanship and teamwork. We run two basketball clubs at lunchtime in Gracemount Primary School, a Basketball Club on a Friday afternoon, a Street Team on Friday evneings and small group outings for family siblings ... but we see the potential for so much more to happen that would transform the lives of local young people.
Not everyone involved with SWITCH is 'sporty' - there are people from a range of backgrounds, gifts and skills because the major prerequisite is a passion for young people from deprived areas! In everything we do we seek to share God's love with the young people we serve. We do this through the ways we interact with them, the opportunities and development we seek to open up to them, and the good news we share with them from the Christian faith.
We are a tight-knit community of Jesus' disciples and as such meet regularly to build one another up, spur one another on and have fun with one another.
SWITCH is a registered Scottish Charity, charity number SCO4151
